I have a memory of sitting on a sunny cement step with my mom, sharing oranges or lemons from the tree by our back door. Sometimes my brother would carefully peel a thick-skinned lemon, keeping the peel as intact as possible, and either put the hollow peel back on the tree or in the fruit bowl to trick my mom. We loved tricking her with like this or with rude words in songs, egging each other on to be bolder and sillier.
